Pamela Ong

pamele ongI would like to take this opportunity to thank PMI Adelaide for providing me the chance to serve the Chapter. I have volunteered as an event coordinator since December 2016. Throughout my tenure, I had the opportunity to meet a group of like-minded people who have always been willing to share their project management domain knowledge and work experience. Most members were very helpful and friendly, so it wasn’t too difficult for me to integrate and assimilate into the team. What I’ve noticed from the team of volunteers is that we come from different backgrounds and nationalities, but we share the same vision and objective, which is to roll out many quality project management related events to the community.

There were also a few former PMI directors who have been inspiring, encouraging, and helpful. In fact, I landed my first and current job through my networking in PMI! Throughout the last 3 years, I have continued to contribute my time and efforts to the events, whenever my time permits. PMI has evolved with the participation of new members and new active committee members, and this (to me) is very healthy for the organisation as it brings fresh new ideas in which would benefit the community. I am pretty sure Kamyar and his team will be able to lead the Chapter to a whole new level and experience with the many online events organised during this pandemic. We can’t deny that the influence of social media is huge and I am glad to see a better representation of PMI on the various social media platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook.

Last but not least, I have gained valuable insights from the various seminars, gained valuable friends, and most of all, been able to contribute back to the community. As Albert Einstein aptly puts it, “Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulty, lies opportunity.”. Hence, even in this unpredictable time, when we face a problem or complication, we have the chance to find a way to resolve it and learn from our experience. And what better way than to get ourselves involved in our local PMI Chapter. Thank you.
